Every other year or so, I love to winter over in Cali. I do my very best -in any country I visit to at least know how they dress and certain things to never do/say. A "when in Rome" philosophy. Last year a friend of mine from the United States wanted to join me for about a week. MIstake. Make sure your friends who want to visit you have the capacity to understand they are not in the U.S.

June 16, 2024 . Having resided in Medellin for three years, the last year seems to have seen a spike in crime. While sitting at Suramerica Metro, having a tinto. Street guy approaches begging for a cigarette...refused. Street guy wants to swap a pair of scissors (10,000cop?)...i refuse, he grabs my umbrella, threatens me with the shears. I recover the umbrella, start walking stairs into metro station...street guy attempts to kick my feet from under me. Bystanders have called the police. Street guy exits the scene...police arrive, 15 minutes later. Cruise the area...nothing. One week later having another tinto, different location...street guy is now paying for his own tinto AND cigarette. See's me...departs. Police can't seem to locate this guy...same neighborhood. Funny...peculair...paranoia?

They are "happy" and put on a brave face, because its survival. They are guarded to not expose themselves to exploitation, which is common given the slightest opening. Being a good host is part of their identity and nurtures opportunity. Maintaining a good spirit in every situation is a show of strength and control over their environment. If you want a more intimate relationship, you must show humility, invest time on a consistent basis (repeatedly showing humility and no ulterior motive.) I spent over a year establishing a genuine rapport with my cousin's girlfriend. Many late nights sitting on the curb opening up and relating on a human level. I had to prove I was invested in her quality of life and valued her contribution, before I could even learn which area she lived in. I've driven all over Colombia, the new highway will soon make the old mountain road obsolete. It's a gem. We own a farm halfway north, south, east, and west from Medellin.

12 Si os he dicho cosas terrenas y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os digo las celestiales? Great video and awesome colab. I am Middle Eastern, and no matter what Latin American country I go to I blend in so well especially as I am tanned. When you talk about blending in, it’s not only a question of wearing shorts or pants but also the quality of clothes you wear. As a woman I never wear anything that is expensive, that is foreign, or that may draw attention, including jewelry, and watches. Most thieves will notice. I can also point out foreign tourists just by reading the brand of backpack, sneakers, T-shirts or jackets they have. This can make them a target for thieves. Because of the problems in Venezuela, many desperate Venezuelans, come to Colombia, and some unfortunately turned to crime. The first time I was in Bogotá I nearly had my cell phone pickpocketed, but I felt it right away and stopped the thief then I looked at him right in the eye. He was shameless and acted like nothing happened. Thanks for this video, love Lifewithdavid and love you guys as well! 😊

Hola Sam and Tacha! I just wanted to tell you about my experience during December of 2023 to obtain a Resident Visa. I had previously had two consecutive Migrant Visas. I applied for the Resident Visa the week prior to Christmas, 2023. They did require documentation from my EPS (Salud Total) concerning my health insurance coverage. I had asked my EPS agent to send me an official document about my coverage before I submitted the visa application. That was smart thinking ahead. Amazingly, the Cancilleria office never asked for ANY proof of my income.! I do not know why. Perhaps because my only income is U.S. Social Security and they already had my proof of income from my previous visa applications? Even more amazing, I submitted my complete application online on a Friday afternoon. On the following Tuesday afternoon I received an e-mail telling me that my Resident Visa had been approved! Strange but TRUE!! I wonder if submitting my application during the Christmas week might have contributed to my visa being so quickly approved. Just thought you might like to know about this.

The Average U.S. retired person that stays more than 183 days a year will have to file Colombian taxes, Most Social Security is more than 15k a year (couple?). Most retired Americans have assets exceeding 45K in savings and investments. Colombia only attracts low income Americans this way. A (non) double taxation treaty should be signed like many other nations. Money invested by foreign interests will then better benefit the Colombian people and gov. It's a big no go for most people due to the unfriendly tax regime. I would be living on San Andres Island if it were different.
